It was due to the second half of the storm, Cannon got screwed during the initial setup due to wind direction. Once the winds swung around, Cannon cranked it up. Before Cannon opened on Wednesday, there was considerably more snow to the south of Cannon. Cannon and Wildcat do better with different storm setups, they have very different aspects and nearly by topography features. Ideal for Cannon is E/NE wind and S wind is game over. A Gulf of Maine bomb often means Cannon gets the most in the northeast. I am not as familiar with Wildcat's specifics but I often find that a big storm at Cannon doesn't necessarily mean a big storm at Wildcat and vice versa. Loon seemed to do well with this system, they do well with the southerly to northeast swing. So they picked up snow at the start of the storm that Cannon didn't get and then kept it cranking.

1/10 Groomers were wind scoured. Mix between deep drifts, packed powder and ice. Spent basically the whole day in the trees. Very good coverage throughout. The Throne was the only glade that seemed a bit thin, which was more to do with the size of the stumps and rocks in that area.

Welcome. Not sure about how it is for watching the game but the Magic bar is really nice. Good beer selection.

We are out to Jan 11, but still seems worthy to be reporting conditions from the 7-9 storm since it still really hasn't stopped snowing. Cannon today. ~5 degrees. Breezy at the summit, but not lower down. Tough vizibility from combo of cold-fog and snowmaking. Main trail are fairly skied-off and/or windblown although there is still plenty of soft stuff to turn on. Some trees are tracked, some are untouched. It certainly wasn't' a day for everyone....I hear it was sunny at some other NH Mtns.

I keep hearing about this Zoomer Bar. Where is it?

Looks like the 4 or 5 triple bags in the parking lot before 10am caused you to forget who introduced you to the cat!

LOL. For one storm. The only reason to bother with Cannon is A) free or cheap tix B) The Zoomer Bar.

Try one of the front ones I mentioned. They are much more forgiving. They have more than one way down through them the whole way unlike the upper ones that tend to have large sections were it is only one turn (half turn really) wide.

Yeah, the bar is the single greatest attribute of Magic. I get bar envy when I visit. Lift envy not so much.

First post here... Skiing magic for the first time 1/12 and 1/13. Where's the best place to watch the football games?

My designated tree board suffered a fierce injury awhile back and after countless attempts at ptex and epoxy patches I decided to look for a replacement. Primary factors were the ability of the board to perform in: 1) Trees 2) Groomers 3) Pow After doing some googling I found a new trend of snowboards I wasn't really familiar with. I knew there were dedicated Pow decks out there but this new style of "Short & Fat" snowboards reportedly were just as good for carving groomers as a traditional length board. Although a bit skeptical of this claim I decided to pull the trigger on a 151 Warpig (I normally ride a 157). I mounted Now O-Drive binding on it. Some other boards that I was looking at were the K2 series (Party Platter, Simple Pleasures & Bottle Rocket), Marhar Lumberjack and YES (Optimistic, 20/20 and 420) First few days on it were all packed powder, groomer days and I was amazed at how well it holds an edge for such a short board. It carves way better than my daily driver - a Neversummer Proto. It's a bit stiffer and it takes a bit more effort to get it up on an edge than the NS but once you do, definitely get rewarded for it. I wouldn't necessarily take this board out on a day that I'm looking to bomb at high speeds as it's not as stable as the NS and its just too much fun to turn. The board has decent pop but takes a bit to get used to with the short tail for both take off and landing. There's definitely a smaller "strike" zone for getting pop off of a ollie and landing too far back is an easy way to wash out. While it could handle an XL size kicker it wouldn't be my first choice. Its right at home on medium sized features. Another pleasant surprise is that despite the small tail and directional profile its not too bad to ride switch. The one area I found it to be weak at was tracked out/hard bumps. Perhaps it was the stiffness of the board or just the overall wide base that made it difficult but it was definitely not fun (not that anything would be). Finally got to try it out yesterday in trees and powder and it did not disappoint. Extremely easy to maneuver and the float is awesome. With surgically repaired discs on the right side of my back, I generally get really bad sciatic pain in powder from leaning on my back foot all day. This was not the case, I've never had as much stamina on a deep day as I did yesterday. Definitely added a few mph to my tree riding as well. We didn't get any runs with extended open powder as the trails were all wind scoured but there's no doubt that it will rip. Also predicting that its going to be amazing in spring slush. While I'd still rank the Neversummer Proto as slightly more versatile and as having a higher peak performance, the Warpig is solid all around and honestly more fun to ride. It's stiff and responsive but yet super playful.

Just wanted to have a quick note saying that they were blowing snow everywhere. Went up lower breeze then cut over to Duster, Came down a talcum powdery Cyclone.

Nope. Haters gonna hate. Wouldn't want them to experience such fun anyways.

@ABV it's been settled by an outside party once and for all. Cannon > Wildcat

Little surprised how tight the line was. Mount Snow reported 8" since the weekend vs. 10-12 at Bromley and Magic. But really surprised that Cannon did so much better than Wildcat, was definitely due to the initial part of the storm.

I'm thinking the summit chair needs a new name. They have "Flying Bear" and "Flying Yankee" so why not "Flying Squirrel". Could always role with St. Squirrel Six Pack or the Squirrely Express for the new lift.

If this lift is replaced as a result of this, I expect a grass roots movement to have the squirrel sainted. It will have performed a veritable miracle in getting the lift replaced. #SaintSquirrel #TripleTrouble
