  1. Here are a few more photos of my son from Feb 28 powder day at Snowbird, Red Lens Line and Thunder Bowl areas: The Upper Cirque area gets much more accessible when the snow is good: And one he took of me: A friend took this shot of me on a packed powder day on 26 Feb 2021. Also from Feb 26, two friends skiing in Banana Woods off the Gad 2 chair. Lots of user-friendly woods off the Gad 2 chair at Snowbird. It's my favorite place during storms or low viz days. ...to be continued.

  2. INTRO I thought I'd contribute in my own way to the vibrancy of this great website by providing some content, hopefully interesting content. This will be a summary via photos and text of my time spent in Utah this winter. The focus will be mostly on skiing, but I'll try to include a few outstanding non-ski topics and photos of interest to travelers. I may take several days making various posts in this thread to flesh out my approximately 3.5 month stay. I'm still in Utah and still skiing, but tomorrow, May 9 is the end of daily ski operations at Snowbird. For the rest of t

  3. Around the 1st of March I got to ski for a few days with a friend who is a physician and hospital official. It was his first and only chance to ski since the pandemic started. Taking a bunch of lift rides with him (masked and vaccinated) I came to understand that he'd been through heck the last year. I really admired his dedication while putting himself and family at great risk and sacrifice. So glad he had a nice time on his ski vacation and caught good conditions too. A true health care hero! 6. It may be small and not steep, but they are snow making and grooming magicians! Starting this in honor of one of my favorite threads on epicski.com. It was started in 2006 and has been going strong through the 16/17 season with 1360 (and counting posts). The mountain closed in April after a fantastic season. They made significant investment in their snowmaking capabilities and it showed. For its proximity to Boston and surrounding suburbs it really can't be beat. I usually hit the WA up one night a week. Looking forward to next season!

  8. My wife wasn't patient enough to wait for the website issues to be resolved and drove to the mountain (only 15 minutes away) to buy our passes in person. She met @SkiMangoJazz while waiting in line! What a coincidence! Steve is part of our GPS group and she heard him say the name.

  10. That actually sounds pretty amazing. These days there are so many Youtube tutorials, and tech is changing so fast, that I'm not sure a course would hold up as well as in the past. But still, focusing some time on a course would force the learning. My shop stays half ski/board half bike all winter because I try to ride year round. I have a couple of good stands and you are 100% right about how important that is! It solves everything from keeping your work at hand level (cassettes etc) to orienting your bike the right way (brake bleeds etc).

  11. Great thread. I'm in Utah and still skiing frequently for another month or so. I'm making up for a late start. I didn't get my first lift served day until Feb 19, 2021. But this season posed some unique and sometimes wrenching problems. I'm the guy that tries to post as many mouthwatering ski photos as possible, but this winter was very humbling for me. I became the guy sitting on the sidelines. My usual plan in recent years is to remain in the east for early season, ski locally a few times, and then go west to Utah for an extended stay and more skiing. As I was planning to do a a

  12. Got in about seven runs this morning at the mighty Wa. Arrived at about 8:45 and ended up parked in row 10 or 11 of the main lot. The line to pick up pre-purchased lift tickets took close to a half hour to get through, and it was the most crowded, on top of other people experience of the day. (This was my biggest complaint.) There were A LOT of people there this morning... I should have expected it, being a Friday after the first big storm of the year, but it was quite a bit. Their Achilles heel seems to be lift capacity at the moment, in part thanks to running at about half - 3

  13. just for all the nay-sayers - I hope you all pull your heads out of your assess and wear the goddamned masks and play by the rules - we are actively making funeral arrangement for my FIL who died on Monday after being hospitalized with covid pneumonia and intubated for 2.5 weeks. I have to listen to my two kids cry every night because they will never see their gramps again and my wife who talked to him at least once every single day for the last 25 years we have been married. I know everyone thinks the masks are stupid and everyone has Covid fatigue but they work, but only if everyone wears th
