  1. Like skiing on a glacier...corn it was not
  2. Well wachusett had a last hurrah yesterday...can't say the snow was very good (basically skiing on a block of ice) but made it out with my son for the final turns of the season. Fun nevertheless! Good turnout all things considered, probably a hundred or so people showed up! Great season at the wa overall. Look forward to next season.
  3. Looking to be a great event with great skiing! Can't make it but have fun!
  4. Tuned b8 Audi A4 avant...these are my second set of PSS. I love them and really they can't be beat for grip and on the wet. I feel like moving from Michelin would be a compromise but I don't track it anymore so not sure a uhp summer is really needed; then again, tires are where I usually don't make compromises given how critical they are from a safety perspective.
  5. What do you roll on in the summer? My current Michelin PSS are at the end of their lives. The PS4S seems like the logical replacement but would like to research other options. Any suggestions?
  6. Magic was pretty sweet yesterday. First time there and really enjoyed it. They probably had 10" of nice soft pow over a pretty thin base. No wind at all. The morning was pretty incredible, but by afternoon there were some bare spots showing here and there. Mountain was almost 100% open with the exception of a couple of trails. Really cool place that I'll have to get back to. Loved the vibe and terrain! Goniff Glade was probably my pick of the day.
  7. +1 on this info...I'm making a game time decision by the time I reach 93/89 but this intel would be very helpful.
  8. Saturday: magic Sunday: Wachusett - my daughter will be skiing with Elsa.
  9. Pretty cool video. Got me thinking, the east seems to be often overlooked in ski media related to tree skiing. I think tree skiing in the east, is some of the funnest and most challenging skiing I've done. The tight lines are pretty unique here and I really like that challenge. On a pow day eastern trees are pretty much at the top of my list of places I'd want to be. What is your opinion, do you prefer our trees or those elsewhere?
  10. Went Thurs night and Sun morning. Mountain is 100% and skiing great. Solid base, great soft snow, can't really ask for more from the Wa.
  11. I've found the paul lorenz instruction videos to be quite good: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuI6MgYP-AHJ1FJLq38cVuw Elate media has tons of videos (some better than others) across a wide range of topics: https://www.youtube.com/user/elatemedia PSIA and CSIA has a bunch as well: https://www.youtube.com/user/TheSnowPros https://www.youtube.com/user/CSIAAMSC/videos Although nearly a decade old, Chuck Martin's mogul videos have some good core technique overviews: https://www.youtube.com/user/utubecmartin/videos Jf Beaulieu has some good nuggets on his channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/jfbeaulieu96548276/videos I like this one on short turns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_XuGWW6vcQ Many more out there as well.
  12. yeah, surprisingly soft..much better than i expected. wasnt in NH so cant compare though.
  13. Sugarbush skied surprisingly well yesterday. 1-3" over boilerplate on the groomed trails. everything was open. Castlerock was nice in the morning as the sun hit it and softened things up a bit. Middle Earth was probably in the worst shape, lift line close behind with a few bare spots on both and some blue ice. Pick of the day was paradise and the woods to the skier's left.
  14. OK biting the bullet: Sat - Sugarbush Sun - maybe wachusett for some family skiing
  15. Yeah I know there is a risk of this, but I'd rather go than not go. The money isnt really an issue for me and I wont have many more of these opportunities this year, so I'm going to take advantage. Jay Peak a better option? I feel like Mad river valley and north is the best bet for sat.
  16. I've got a hall pass for Sat and trying to decide where to go. I'd rather not give up this opportunity and bite the bullet on conditions. Thinking Sugarbush might be OK. Would appreciate general forum thoughts on this and if there are any alternatives I should consider.
  17. The forecast in the Sierra's looks nuts! They are getting 10-20% of their annual precipitation this week! An impromptu trip is mighty tempting...
  18. ^, I got that. I was just assuming 100mm as a price paid to drive the discussion around the economics. I remember some numbers around 250-300mm as the amount the investors lost so a 30% recovery from this sale seems within the realm of possibility. My question is, do the resort economics today support such an investment? Is there a cash flow yield of say 20% annually on the 100? Anyone know what that looks like?
  19. https://www.wcax.com/content/news/Receiver-for-Jay-Peak-ready-to-begin-sale-process-504049131.html My question to the forum and for those in the know, is Jay a viable, profitable business at $100million cost? I'm not too familiar with ski resort economics.
  20. https://unofficialnetworks.com/2018/12/30/unofficial-award-funniest-ski-clip-of-2018-goes-to/ This made me laugh... happy new year!
  21. Looking to see if anyone is aware of any discounts for lessons at Cranmore.
  22. Was up there on Sat and can confirm 10p starting Fri. 12/21. Mountain, despite the weather, was in pretty great shape. Spring like conditions with soft snow edge to edge. Was with my 3yo on the beginner slope so didn't venture out to much, but did hit conifer and it was great. They've taken advantage of the snowmaking windows and have huge whales available to touch up the open trails should the weather continue to be uncooperative. I'll probably be out there next weekend as well before the holiday madness starts. Starting in 2019 I'll be out there one night a week (likely thursdays) until the mountain closes, and probably sunday afternoons as well.
  23. The wa skied great this morning! Arrived around 9 and left at noon, just as it was starting to get busy. Ski to lift all morning. Ralph's and conifer were the picks of the day. Buttery packed pow across the mountain. My son was ripping it up!
  24. Great afternoon today at the wa with the family. Good base And they were making a ton across the mountain. Going to head up with my son tomorrow morning likely. If the weather continues to cooperate they should be close to 100% in a week or so
