  1. All valid concerns and ones I share for Wildcat. Wildcat is very liberal with rope dropping and extremely lenient with rope ducking. That used to be the case at Stowe back in the day. It already started changing long before Vail got involved, but I'm told these days they've gotten really tight with both. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  2. I don't think it makes much sense comparing East vs West. They make snow on like 20% of skiable terrain out west and groom about 50-60% of terrain nightly. In the East those numbers are more like 80 and 70. Almost any other typical Eastern ski area, these major trails at Cat would have snowmaking and grooming Upper Wildcat Lower Wildcat Lift Lion Top Cat Black Cat Catenary Cougar Tomcat Schuss Panther The only major trails that wouldn't are Starr Line Al's Hairball Feline So, the potential is there that Vail drastically can change how the mountain skis. But as mentioned before, I do think Cat will be very low on the totem pole for investment. I will bet dollars to donuts that the entirety of the Wildcat trail gets snowmaking and grooming and becomes a tame cruiser within the next five years. It will join Polecat, Lynx and Catapult as signature top to bottom groomed cruisers. Lift Lion / Black Cat won't be far behind. Hope I'm wrong Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  3. Why I outta.... Geoff McDonald has a price there too Yeti! And Vail might take your beloved Beast too...muuhaha Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  4. Someone mentioned the idea of Forerunner at Stowe going to HS6 and moving the Quad to Attitash. That seems like a win, win to me. Curious what you think might happen with Jay that will turn you off if it gets gobbled up. Jay's kinda already gotten the whole Disneyland treatment already. More snowmaking and grooming? More snowmaking and grooming is definitely my great concern for Wildcat. Shortening the season is also a concern. Cat is probably the most "raw" 2k vert ski area in the East after MRG. Though I suppose Jay probably ties Cat. Both a distant second to MRG. Cat only makes snow and grooms about half the trails. I fear Vail turns trails like Upper Wildcat and all of Gondiline into man made boulevards. End of the day, I'm not too worried. Looking at the Vail portfolio, Wildcat is probably near the very bottom of their list for investment targets that will produce substantial ROI. As long as we keep our roughly 11/10 to 5/1 season with minimal manicuring of the slopes, I'll likely remain happy and not consider change. Where I live, the only reasonable option for change is Cannon. I've considered it many times, but fewer crowds and less grooming keeps me loyal to Cat. 5. You might be right about the crossover fact. The price? I dunno. Stowe installed the Forerunner 7 years ago now at a cost of $6M. Attitash lift would be of similar length to the Forerunner and more complicated because of the crossover. It might also require some line widening during the stretch immediately above the Yankee. Factor all that, inflation and both major lift companies saying they are short on help and I would not be surprised if that lift costs closer to $8M. 6. Tash triple replacement with a HSQ would have to be major $$. Probably in the $8M range because of the Yankee. I would think once they had some engineers look at it, they'd likely realign the Yankee. I wonder if you could even pull a permit for the crossing and shared tower anymore. 7. Even if Peak was in financial position to do so, I don't see Burke as a good target for them because of the hotel. Lodging operations are not their area of expertise. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  8. https://www.brewbound.com/news/boston-beer-company-and-dogfish-head-agree-to-merge-in-300-million-deal Haven't drank either in years, but recently had a Sam Adams Light that my new neighbor handed me. To think that not long ago Dogfish was winning many awards as one of the best breweries in the country Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  9. I definitely have a bit of a moral conflict now with my spend with Peak. On the one hand, I don't want the Sackashitlers receiving a dime of my money. On the other hand I enjoy so many of the staff at Wildcat and any Boycott of Peak by me would harm those folks more than the Sacklers Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  10. I wonder why that is? Marketing early and late season as having most skiable vertical? I also think running Bobcat out late season would be great, but with Bobcat trail, not Catapult. Maybe set up a temporary bar outside the Ski Team building. I assume it has bathrooms? Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  11. OP is snowmobiling your main interest? If skiing isn't really a big priority, but snowmobiling is, The St John River Valley is pretty sweet. Ft Kent is a pretty charming town. I'm staying in Edmundston, NB tonight which combined with Madawaska is a surprisingly large (by Maine standards) metro area. Towns of Snowmobiling up in this area. 14. I forgot my helmet too. Bought a Wildcat hat and took it easy. They ended up taking a picture of me and posting it on their Facebook page. Lol Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  15. I saw quite a few people buying day tickets yesterday as well. Upper and Middle Lynx were definitely better than lower Lynx. They only groomed half of Lower Lynx. The other side was separated by this weird ridge with many ungroomed on the opposite side of the trail. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  16. Disagree You Must if Tuckerman Brewery starts producing better beer. I'm all for the local business, but if the local business sucks, I don't frequently support it. Tucks needs to up their game. Long Trail has no place on the beer list either. Switchback is a maybe. Overall the Cat beer list sucks. Yet, I'm a loyal mug club member. Lol Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  17. True, but those gullies are a major avalanche zone. Having avy control in that area should be viewed as a positive. People have died in there and the beavers. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  18. Bummer. The terrain there actually looks pretty interesting for a small hill. Wish I checked it out when I could. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  19. I believe the auction mugs revenue goes to support the ski team. I definitely broke even the first two years I had a Cat mug, but not last year and won't again this year. But, I will again in the future, so I maintain a membership for the reasons Weatherman states. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  20. I agree with that for sure. Ptarmagins is the pits. Just a shoved in a corner after thought. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  21. Yeah, new trails are probably unlikely due to lengthy USFS permitting and construction expense. Other than that chair, the only realistic ski experience improvements they could probably do is a couple more glades. They are deficient compared to the competition with tree skiing. I've mentioned it prior, but skiers right of Idiots half way down has some trees that could be cleaned up pretty easily. I've also thought there's a good amount of real estate between Avenger and Kachina. Could put in a nice, long nearly top to bottom glade in there. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  22. I just think with major and continued improvements at Bretton Woods, Cranmore, Cannon, Loon, Ragged and even Waterville; replacing that chair has to be a top priority for Attitash. Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  23. Replace Triple with HSQ, move triple over to replace double doubles Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
  24. Sad event on Cannon this past weekend. I had not heard of this waterfall. Anyone know where on the mountain it is located? It sounds up high as the Tram was used during recovery efforts. https://www.wmur.com/article/man-falls-to-his-death-after-slipping-off-waterfall-at-cannon-mountain/23389691 Sent from my XT1635-01 using Northeast Mountain Sports mobile app
