  2. My wife's family are all "goofy-Newfies' hailing from the fishing fleets of Newfoundland. It's always been a bit of a sore spot, embarrassment, and taboo subject around Boxing Day. But with today's news we just locked in basically free skiing at Jay and Burke for the forseeable future!! I urge anyone with CAN roots to jump on this https://vtskiandride.com/jay-peak-and-burke-sold-to-quebec/ A Mari usque ad Mare!!

  5. Today's news is that the sale of Jay Peak has been delayed a year until next summer. And Burke is off the market indefinitely as the receiver has yet to figure out how to profitably operate the mountain.
  6. I figure I'll be at Jay peak enough to make this thread worthwhile Off season Improvements "increased snowmaking capabilities" what these are and how much they are effective, who knows, but according to the mountain there has been significant water delivery improvement to allow for more guns to be on at once, which may or may not change the mountains snowmaking philosophy of choosing a trail and blowing on it for a week straight and then switching. The Tram is fixed! over the summer millions were spent to bring the Tram back up to full carrying capacity along with improving the
  7. Jay was almost complete on windhold most of the morning. Then around 11:30 they opened everything up and posted this:. "The competition course, and just about all of our other trails, are in fantastic shape. Very soft on the sides, with some firm patches here and there.". That is probably the least accurate and least honest reporting I've seen. A more accurate report would be:. "most of our trails are in pretty rough shape. Half of them are blown down to dirt. The rest are a mix of blue ice with small pockets of soft snow. Groomers are decent, except where there are loose rocks, glare ice,
  8. I've been casually thinking about ski houses in the Jay Peak area for a while now. Someone else brought up the topic last week on my trip there, so I've revived my interest. Does anyone know of any existing ski club lodges near Jay? Thus far I've yet to find any existing lodges in the area. Does anyone know of any? If not, there may be a market for this. The Northeast Kingdom seems to be a vacuum for such lodging options. Would anyone else be interested in founding a ski club near Jay?

  10. https://vtdigger.org/2017/04/30/jay-peak-profits-rise-9-million-officials-report/ Jay Peak reported a profit increase from $1.8M to $9M on $50M revenue. They're expecting $4.7M in profit for an average season. That is impressive. With that kind of money the tram project doesn't sounds so scary. Burke is projected to lose a little under $2M. If they can't make a profit this year, can they ever? That doesn't give me good feelings.
