Wachusett Conditions and get togethers

I was there yesterday morning 9-12.  10th is skiing very well, Smith not so much.  Conifer too is good.   Not sure when you started, but yes the Summit runs get scraped off fairly quickly.  I usually ski about ½ dozen runs off the summit from when the lifts open and then move over.

Hitchcock is definitely in great shape these days, as it usually is.

was there noon to 6....im sure its great in the morning as the edges of 10th and conifer had mounds of snow...definitely agree that smith is in rough shape...needs some good natural snow, but ill take it nevertheless!

Went out for a few hours in the afternoon yesterday...not overly crowded and they're continuing to make snow on the regular so conditions are improving by the day.  runs off minuteman still in the best shape.

was out at wachusett last tues and sat.  Mountain is 100% open and skiing great with nice packed poweder (groomed 2x a day of course) all around!  I think they now have close to a 5'+ base.  They seeded the moguls on 10th on sat and they were actually pretty good!  Lines were somewhat long both days (15-20min) but once on the slopes, didnt feel that busy.

have been out to wachusett 5 times since i last posted, including today.  the mountain has been busy at the base every time out with the exception of this afternoon.  but it really is only evident when parking and at the lifts...once on mountain seems like much less people than you'd think.

today was a great day...spring skiing like...mashed potatoes most of the mountain, with natural bumps having developed on smith and 10th (along with seeded bumps on 10th and sundowner).

proud day today - my 5yo daughter both did her first black diamonds (she ski'd all the trails marked black today!) and also hit up the bumps on sundowner (manmade) and past the cider shack on salamander (natural)...proud dad moment of the year so far!

cider donuts for both kids as a treat - they are delicious!

Wachusett was fabulous today.  No lines (probably due to the cold, but I think people are starting to wind down) perfect fast but grippy snow.

I could arc huge turns across the bottom of Challenger and almost touch the snow with no concern of anyone being on the trail with me.  Even got a couple of runs like that on Ralph's which always has people on it.

Summit skied great.  7 runs in an hour.  Like the good old days.

was out there sunday...what a crazy weather day...showed up around 10a, beautiful bluebird day with temps around 40.  Around noon, clouds and wind rolled in.  Winds continued to pick up as the time passed, and shortly started snowing like crazy.  Nice that it was snowing, but it was glue on the mountain.  Was with a group of kids that are still  learning and i had to pull them down the trails off sundowner.

On a positive note, saw this posted, looking good for another month or so of skiing assuming nature cooperates:

Snowmaking in March? We did it. With the blast of cold temps we were able to resurface the upper mountain including Conifer and Tenth Mountain last night! This will ensure the best possible edge-to-edge conditions for the last 3 weeks of the season. This one of the latest days we have ever made snow in a season.

Skiing this week and next week look really good.  The week that ends with April 4th of course is unknown, but that's as far as they're selling tickets for right now.

Almost 3 full weeks of skiing (at least) left.

Squeeze every drop out of that grapefruit.

My wife wasn't patient enough to wait for the website issues to be resolved and drove to the mountain (only 15 minutes away) to buy our passes in person.   She met @SkiMangoJazz while waiting in line! What a coincidence!  Steve is part of our GPS group and she heard him say the name.

Thx again for the discount @MassNerd!

Let's fill up this thread next season and try to get all the posters in the thread together. Steel pass for me as a rhody flatlander is just perfect, and what a deal!

Friday and weekend Wa no thanks! Fantastic to have a budget price pass that fits me perfectly!

Yes it was a funny coincidence. We were standing next to each other, each at a different window in the process of paying.   I spelled the club name and she asked if I knew you and said you were her husband.

I bought the Senior Gold for $389.  Living :15 away I go early and late seasons, early morning on the weekends, so it's worth it.

went to buy the family passes today...Jr passes sold out.  Pretty miffed and when I called they stated that they were sold out in a week after being released (not sure when that was).

Might be the first season in a decade I wont be at wachusett...sad honestly, and there are no good alternatives as comps (short drive from house; <30min, night skiing, kids activities, fast lifts, high output snowmaking).  I could go to nashoba, but that seems like a big step back and I cant see my family spending a season there.

I guess PSA to everyone who was looking for Jr. passes - if you didnt buy months ago your SOL, or you can spend $250/kid extra for adult gold (65% premium over jr) or $50/kid for silver passes (12% premium over gold) to go...feels like a money grab to me, but I dont know.  I've emailed them to see if what I'm thinking here is valid and will post if I learn anything new.

It might come back to bite them in the butt if they don't open up more passes (assuming there won't be capacity limits again this year.)  How many parents will sign their kids up for the dev team if they have to buy tickets at the window each week?  I think the limited passes last year is part of the reason their numbers were so low for the women's clinic.  I'm assuming the bronze pass won't work for your kid(s)?  That would give you after 4 and any weekday you wish to play hooky with them.  Pair that with an Indy pass for weekend adventures.

I would think there's a good chance that they will open up and sell more passes.

When they first sold passes and sold out was quite a while ago and the pandemic was not as calm as it is now.   It's easier to sell passes later than to have to rescind them.

Quick update here for anyone who cares...

Sat DEV sold out from what I was told.  If you sign up for DEV, you can still add Jr. Gold to the DEV purchase.

Gold adult and kids are sold out - senior only at this point.

Silver and some bronze still available.

I got silver for the whole family and will plan some trips during the blackout period with the fam.

Just to add to the Wawa passes-sold-out saga..... someone online is offering $500 for a pass.  I wrote them and they'll even pay that much for a Bronze.    So,  any GPS groups that have a bronze earned that they are planning on selling anyways?

Thats craziness!  I feel like they dropped the ball somewhere with passes this season - wonder if they will release more?  I would still pay to upgrade my silver to gold (or get my kids gold at a cost less than silver!)

On  a positive note, they released day tickets for the 26th...im sure if we get some good cold nights before thanksgiving they'll be making snow as usual to get the season started sooner than that!

I did read somewhere that they have a wait list for passes, in case they decide conditions are ok to add capacity.  Nothing to lose by  reaching out and asking about  the possibility of "upgrading."

I know they are usually spinning the lifts by Black Friday.  Any idea what the earliest is that they've opened?
