Tenney, NH 3/9/2018

Recommended Posts

Tenney Mountain in Plymouth, NH is open!  First ski day since 2010 was 3/8/2018 but I didn't get to check out Tenney until Friday, 3/9.  Was well worth the 2-hour drive from Boston.  $30 lift ticket, lift was open 9:00-4:00 but I had to leave by 2:00 to get back to do what I was in the area for in the first place.  Tenney could open last week because the storm on 3/6-7 dropped 14+ inches.  Only the double to the top, Hornet, was running.  There was both groomed and ungroomed terrain.  Could choose from 2-3 ways down from the top.  I had the most fun with the winding turns of Edelweiss, a classic old school narrow New England trail through the trees.  Very glad I made the drive.  Hope to get back next season when everything is finished and all the trails are open.

Probably 20 people over the course of the day.  Heard that about 60 showed up on Thursday for not only Opening Day, but totally ungroomed conditions.  They groomed things out for the weekend.  It was warming up enough on the lower mountain to start feeling heavy by the afternoon when the sun came out.  Even so it was still snowing a bit at the summit.

Anyone who has been following the Tenney story on Facebook knows about Hank.  He was in the parking lot at 9:00 to greet folks.  Even had his name tag on. :)

Check the Tenney Facebook page for the latest info.  Hard to say how much will be groomed before Friday.  I would think some of the lift line won't be groomed.

Since I only brought my boots to Boston, I rented skis from Plymouth Ski & Sport in town before heading up the road to Tenney.  The bonus was that after returning the skis, I discovered that the local ice cream shop has homemade soup too.  The Soup & Scoop special is a great bowl of soup followed by ice cream for under $10.  Perfect ending to my visit to Plymouth.

Tenny is only grooming one side of wider trails as long as there is fresh snow to play in.  On Facebook, Mike posted the trace of where the groomer went.

By next season, I have no doubt there will be a webcam or two up at Tenney.

I saw a video of Tenney. Looks like the trails have lots of character. Made want to go there.

What was open certainly had character.  Talked to a couple who live nearby who skied Tenney often 2007-2010.  Said the trails off the other lift are good fun too.  Being able to get in 1300' vertical without stopping is fun anywhere.  Doing that on all natural snow was a hoot!

My guess is that Tenney isn't quite ready to worry about working with a multi-resort agreement.  Although if someone approached them, they would be open to listen to offers.

It wouldn't surprise me to see them announce something next fall.

Anybody know if they have any relationship planned with Plymouth State for next season? Is Rivercoil signed up here yet?

no news of that yet, they have been going to Waterville that past 2 seasons. My Daughter is hopeful it will be Cannon next year, like her freshman  year.

They usually vote on where theyre going, and its not until the fall if I remember correctly ! Shocked that they ended up at Waterville for a second year in a row.

My kid went to PSU, did Cannon with bus ride from campus for $8. Tenney was still a pipe dream but I believe it previously had a long history with PSU race team. @rivercoil knows the history, dunno if he posts here yet......

Tenney back in biz is excellent.

Tenney has been working the PSU for a while.  There was talk of using the area for classes in subjects like environmental engineering.

Eventually Tenney will be installing wireless lights on the slopes.  The owners have patents related to the technology.  Obviously night skiing would be good for PSU students.

Wireless lights? How are the powering them?
